Cloth bound volume, 7 x 4.5 inches. 177 pp plus 36 pp publisher's Advertising Sheet plus bound in 6 pp pamphlet (of 8 pp) titled New Works published by Chapman & Hall. Original cloth binding discolored; text block cocked. Of 34 plates, 30 are hand colored (in addition to the image on the title page). Engraving of Sir Joseph Banks serves as frontispiece. Endpapers (inscribed) not original to volume. Volume is shaken but plates, clean and bright, remain firmly attached. Although the volume is unprepossessing in appearance, the attractive plates are in remarkably fine condition, bright and delicately colored. Each image shows the fish in color against an engaging background of ships, rocks, sea etc., the fish marooned on dry land. Item #50056
