Folded System Map, 9 x 4 inches, unfolding to full-color, two-sided map of US and Mexico showing American's routes and destinations. Unfolded size 24 x 36 inches; overall good condition with weakness at some folds. A map coming at a critical moment in American Airlines corporate history. The rear panel of the folded map states: "American Airlines position as leader in the development and use of the finest in commercial aircraft will be maintained in the Jet Age with two new types of planes. They are the turbo-jet Boeing 707 which will join the fleet by the end of 1958 and the turbo-prop Lockheed Electra which goes into service by January, 1959. American will inaugurate the first transcontinental service with jet aircraft with the Boeing 707. Cruising at 585 miles per hour, the 707 will carry 112 passengers from California to New York in only four hours and forty-five minutes." The front of the brochure features DC-7 propeller aircraft while on the rear, jet aircraft are pictured. Overall good clean condition. Item #49844
