Darley, James M. (cartographer); Charles E. Riddiford (designer).
Washington, D.C. National Geographic Society. 06- 1940.
Color decorative map, sheet 26 x 34 1/2 inches, folded as issued. Brown stain to folded map shows up near the northern borders of California and Colorado; otherwise very good clean condition. This handsome decorative map stands out from the usual National Geographic map with its decorative border (influenced by Works Project Administration art) featuring the state seals and vignettes of landmarks such as the Golden Gate Bridge and the Boulder Dam. There is great detail with current and historic information. The "Legend of Exploration" in the cartouche at lower left notes the routes of many different explorers; Indian Reservations, Reclamation Projects, Exploration routes, and transportation routes are among the features marked.
