Color pictorial / pictographic map, lithograph, 27 1/2 x 38 1/2 inches, originally folded, now professionally mounted on linen. Very light wear to folds minimized by linen backing; very good, clean condition. An imposing poster of Massachusetts by Elizabeth Shurtleff, highlighting the history of the state with colorful illustrations of places, people and events from colony days, both on the map and in the decorative border. At the left and right edges are the arms of the educational institutions of the state. Particularly bold and attractive are the images of the many sailing boats offshore. At lower right is the island of Nantucket, with the Pequod sailing close by, the lookout calling "Have yous een Moby Dick, Captain Ahab!!" "Litho In U.S.A. The Tudor Press Inc.
