New York. Frank V. Strauss & Co., 1913.
24 pp theatre program, 7.75 x 5 inches, in full color paper wraps. Near mint condition. British-born playwright and director J. Hartley Manners wrote "Peg O' My Heart" for his wife, Laurette Taylor. The play ran for over 17 months (603 performances) at the Cort Theatre (self-described as "The Most Beautiful Playhouse in America"); when it closed in 1914 it became the longest running non-musical play in Broadway history. March, 1913, saw sheet music publisher Leo. Feist's release of "The $1000.00 Prize Song Peg O' My Heart." The cover of the sheet music featured Laurette Taylor as the wistful looking orphan Peg with her much-loved dog on her lap. The song, with "Dedicated to the Star" printed on the sheet music cover, was featured in the 1913 Ziegfeld Follies. The theatre program features copious period advertising with an emphasis on up-market products. Of particular note is the chromolithographic "Mogul Cork Tip Cigarettes" advertisement on the rear cover. Exceptional condition throughout. Item #48745
