Moran, Leon (illus).
New York. Truth. 02-01- 1896.
Vol. XV. No. 459. Centrefold color illustration on sheet 13 3/4 x 20 1/2 inches, in complete issue of Truth magazine February 1, 1896. Illustration in very good condition (two staples at centrefold as issued). Covers of magazine are split and detached, little pencil writing in upper margin of front cover, otherwise good condition. The centrefold is an unusual illustration by Leon Moran of a woman bowling, surrounded by a group of men and women. The lines underneath suggest that this was a Valentine's Day illustration: "...The pins go down! With equal ease She brings her lovers to their knees." The color cover illustration shows a woman in a snowy landscape going off to skate, skates in hand. The back cover is a four part "Whist - Prehistoric." It is interesting to note that, under the masthead, it is noted: "To Art Students and Collectors: The originals of illustrations in this and back issues are for sale at Truth Office." Item #48590
