Copper plate etching, hand-colored, plate area 16 1/4 x 10 3/4 inches on sheet size 18 3/4 x 13 inches, adhesive residue to outer edges of verso (not affecting front image). Light soiling to upper corner of sheet (scarcely noticeable). The exquisitely etched and handpainted image depicts the elaborately constructed nest of a pond heron. From "Nederlandsche Vogelen" a monumental ornithological work published in Amsterdam over the years 1770-1829. Item #48178
