Birket Foster, Myles (illus).
[London.]: No date. Ca. 1875.
Color lithograph, 10 x 15 1/2 inches on sheet size 12 x 17 1/4 inches. Light foxing in outer margins, small hole in upper left margin, registration marks in side margins. Overall very good condition. A richly colored, high quality lithograph after the English watercolor painter Myles Birket Foster (1825-1899), a scene of country children at work gathering bracken. Although unsigned, it is from a series of scenes of children engaged in country activities of work and play produced by this artist of Victorian England. His work was published in venues such as The Illustrated London News, but this was an independently issued print. Although Birket Foster's depiction of country life is undoubtedly a romanticised version, the image is enormously evocative, rendered in an impressionistic style. Item #47912
