SIX VOLUMES COMPLETE, full page and in-text black and white woodblock illustrations throughout, each volume 8 1/2 x 6 inches decorative embossed paper wrappers with title labels, double sheets with stab binding in modern cloth-covered case with clasps. Two labels glued to the front of each volume, label to spine of case, clean and bright throughout. Apparently the first edition of a treatise on architecture and carpentry, based on an 1851 title, but here containing information on Japanese traditional methods as well as on the European architecture, carpentry and detailing that was being introduced into Meiji Japan. The images include detailed drawings and instructions for construction. An extraordinarily detailed compendium of East meets West architecture. Item #47165
