Covers rubbed with scattered soiling; interior very good with occasional light spotting, paper loss to edge of one page (not affecting text or images). Illustrated with engravings made expressly for this publication and accompanied by a trial of the events by Emilio Castelar. "Illustrated with engravings made expressly for this publication." An account of Peruvian General Gutierrez, Minister of War under President Balta's Administration to effect, with his brother, a coúp d'etat and assume power (1872). Balta was murdered at Gutierrez's instruction but the coúp failed and the bodies of the two brothers were hanged from the towers of the great cathedral. Profusely illustrated with wood-cuts.
