Handcolored engraving, image approximately 22 x 15 1/2 inches on sheet size 25 3/4 x 17 1/4 inches, two folds as issued. Some short edge tears and faint soiled spots, two inch tear to mid left edge near fold, 1 1/2 inch two-pronged tear to mid lower margin (affecting title and just entering lower image); light toning but overall good, bright condition. An exceptional item, of which very few will have survived, this poster-sized fashion illustration "No. 73 of the New Triple Paris Fashion Plates" (and "printed in Paris"), was published as a laid-in supplement to the British publication "The Young Ladies Journal." It features three rows of the latest and most sophisticated women's fashions, part of the "gigantic supplement" which had "description of the above illustrations, and...prices of cut-out patterns" (fashion print only is here present). The top row shows ten fancy dress costumes for young people such as Cherry Ripe, a Butterfly, Medieval Page, Normandy Bride; the middle row of women's fancy dress costumes includes Chinese Lady, America, Queen of Spades, Roman Lady, Shepherdess; the bottom row shows elegant evening dresses.
