Hand colored lithograph, image approximately 15 x 11 inches on sheet size 18 3/4 x 12 1/2 inches. A few short edge tears, soft crease to three corners (outside plate area) and minor chip to lower left corner; good, clean condition. Elegant and richly colored image of an exotic reddish-pink and yellow flowering plant complete with botanical details. Plate 9 from the scarce publication "Flore d'Amerique dessinée d'apres nature sur les lieux. Riche collection de plantes les plus remarquables, fleurs & fruits de grosseur & de grandeur naturelle." The subtitle notes: "La alpinie a fleurs pendantes repand une odeur de Lavande ambree: cette plante fleurit deux fois par an" identifying the source of the name of the flower from its lavander-like odor. The plant is depicted life-size. Denisse lived in the French West Indies where he collected and documented plants of the region. Item #46251
