Engraving with mezzotint, printed in color with additional handcolor, image size 12 3/4 x 8 1/2 inches on sheet 15 1/2 x 9 3/4 inches. Some light foxing (mainly outside plate area), good and bright condition. Four flowering auricula plants, plate No. 207 from Johann Wilhelm Weinmann " Phytanthoza Iconographia ", printed on thick laid paper. Dunthorne (#327) notes that plates from this work represent "some of the earliest examples of color printing from a single plate", many of them printed by a combination of line engraving and mezzotint. The initial H at lower right indicates the artist engraver Johann Jakob Haid (1704-1767). Item #45821
