U.S. Navy Ports of the World. New York. Ditty Box guide Book Series.

Navy Bureau of Navigation. Ca. 1920.
BOOKLET, black and white photo illustrations, decorative red central border to each page, large folding map tipped in at back, 85 pp, 5 1/4 x 7 inches, color pictorial wrappers (softbound). Two creases to back cover and last blank page, otherwise very good condition with the map scarcely opened, no tears, clean and bright. From the Ditty Box Guide Book Series, with information for sailors on shore leave, this offers a fascinating snapshot view, in photos and text, of New York in the 1920s. There is a detailed and interesting map with subway lines marked ("Present Subway Lines," "Present 'L' lines", "Subway with 'L'"), a plethora of ferry lines, and "Ellis Island U.S. Immigrant Sta." WorldCat notes the date as [1920]; a crossing for the Hudson Railroad is marked on the map with a Tunnel at the same spot: the Hudson Tunnel (to become the Holland Tunnel) was begun in 1920 and completed in 1927.
