Two woodcuts (each approximately 5 x 3 inches), hand colored, on single sheet 8 1/2 x 14 inches, text on verso. Dampstain to lower right edge, a few faint spots, old ink notation on verso, overall very good condition. Beautifully designed and executed wood cuts of two Clematis plants, showing flowers, roots. Coloring appears to be early hand color, simple and carefully done. Verso of page 326 from an unidentified old German language (fraktur) herbal, possibly Mattioli’s "Kreuterbuch ...." (Jacob Fischer, Frankfurt am Main, 1611) a German version of his "Pedacii Dioscoridis de materia medica libri sex" first published in Venice 1558. Item #44585
