Single woodcut (approximately 5 x 3 inches), hand colored, on single sheet with surrounding text, 8 1/2 x 14 inches, text on verso. A few small ink spots and some faint foxing, overall very good condition. Beautifully designed and executed wood cuts of of a branch from a Beech tree, showing flowers, leaves, seeds. Coloring appears to be early hand color, simple and carefully done. Page 66 from an unidentified old German language (fraktur) herbal, possibly Mattioli’s "Kreuterbuch ...." (Jacob Fischer, Frankfurt am Main, 1611) a German version of his "Pedacii Dioscoridis de materia medica libri sex" first published in Venice 1558. Item #44583
