Two woodcuts (each approximately 5 x 3 inches), hand colored, on single sheet 8 1/2 x 14 inches, text on verso. Dampstaining in lower margin, couple of tiny edge tears, overall very good condition. Beautifully designed and executed wood cuts of melons on the vine, showing flowers, fruit, seeds, roots. Coloring appears to be early hand color, simple and carefully done. Page 156 from an unidentified old German language (fraktur) herbal, possibly Mattioli’s "Kreuterbuch ...." (Jacob Fischer, Frankfurt am Main, 1611) a German version of his "Pedacii Dioscoridis de materia medica libri sex" first published in Venice 1558. Item #44531
