Stipple engraving printed in color with added hand color, plate 12 x 9 inches on sheet 16 x 10 inches. A couple of light foxing spots, scarcely visible. Very good condition. An exquisite image of a crabapple branch with fruit and botanical details by Pancrace Bessa, one of France's foremost botanical artists of the 19th century. This fine example of botanical art was published in "Traite des Arbres et Arbustes que l'on cultive en france en pleine terre. Seconde edition 'nouveau Duhamel' considerablement augmentee" (Dunthorne 243) which documented trees and shrubs cultivated in France. This is plate 44 from Volume 6. Item #44001
