Aquatint with handcolor, image 8 1/2 x 12 1/2 inches (22 x 32 cm) on sheet 12 1/2 x 18 1/2 inches. Blindstamp "La Favorite" in lower margin. Light cockling to paper, toning at two edges, very good condition. A view of the Fort of Bocca-Tigris in the Pearl River delta just downstream from Canton. This was one of the many fortifications protecting this strategic route of the China Trade to Canton. This atmospheric image of the fort with a junk and a yacht sailing in the river in the foreground was engraved by Sigismond Himeley after the artist Francois E. Paris. From the publication by Himeley: Voyage autour du monde par les mers de l'Inde et de la Chine de la corvette de sa Majeste La Favorite execute pendant les annees 1830, 1831, 1832 sous le commandement de M. Laplace. The strait is now crossed by the Humen Pearl River Bridge. Item #43890
