Chicago. Chicago, Burlington & Quincy Railroad / Rand, McNally & Co., No date. Ca. 1892.
Color map, 27 3/4 x 44 inches on sheet 29 x 45 1/2 inches. Was originally issued as a wall map on rollers, which have been removed to have it professionally mounted on linen. Vertical tear across the centre of the map, neatly joined in the main body of the United States, but visible in the lower centre area of ocean, other minor repaired edge tears, toning to edges and light toning to a band along the bottom of the map. Professional restoration has made it an eminently displayable map. There are three attractive engraved vignettes at lower left, showing the interiors of the cars: "Interior View of Pullman Palace Sleeping Car Running on the Burlington Route"; "Interior View of Burlington Route Passenger Chair Car"; "Interior View of Burlington Route Dining Car." The vignettes suggest a late 1800s date for the map. The wall sized map shows the Burlington Route with its extensive connections. The Library of Congress record for the map notes: "This map is issued by the Passenger Department of the Chicago, Burlington &. Quincy Railroad. Copies will be mailed to any address on receipt of fifteen cents postage by the under signed. P. S. Eustis, General Passanger and Ticket Agent C., B.&Q. R.R. Chicago, Ill. The Burlington Route runs daily through trains between Chicago, Peoria, or St. Louis ... connecting with through trains for all points..." An interesting independently issued railroad map. Item #43754
