Engraving with mezzotint, printed in color with additional handcolor, image size 13 1/4 x 8 1/2 inches on sheet 15 x 9 1/4 inches. A few faint fox marks, single pinhole in upper left and right corner (outside plate area), two small pieces of adhesive tape on verso (not affecting front image), very good condition. Single plant with two details, plate No. 891 from Johann Wilhelm Weinmann " Phytanthoza Iconographia ", printed on thick laid paper. Dunthorne (#327) notes that plates from this work represent "some of the earliest examples of color printing from a single plate", many of them printed by a combination of line engraving and mezzotint. The initial H at lower right indicates the artist engraver Johann Jakob Haid (1704-1767). Item #43567
