Profusely illustrated with etchings and engravings, a chromolithograph and additional black and white full page and in-text illustrations, all edges gilt, marbled endpapers, vi+380pp, index, 13 x 10 inches, gilt decorative cloth-covered boards (hardbound) with leather corners and spine. Cover extremities rubbed; interior is tight and clean, MISSING one etching "An Old German Mill" by A.H. Haig. One etching bound in at the wrong place (p65, not p85 as in the List of Illustrations). Despite some wear to the leather at the extremities overall this is a copy in particularly handsome condition. Features original etchings by Hubert Herkomer "The Babes in the Wood", Birket Foster "An Old English Mill", Colin Hunter "The Mussel Gatherers", "Fishing Boats off Whitby" by David Law, "Charity" by Alphonse LeGros, "In Cassiobury Park" by J.P. Heseltine, "The Sabot Shop" by Mortimer L. Menpes. There are a total of 11 etchings (of 12, MISSING "An Old German Mill"), 13 line engravings, 4 engravings after sculptures. Also included is a chromolithograph "Satsuma Faience" printed by the Paris firm of Firmin Didot & Co. Much fascinating information on artists and the art world of the period. Item #43511
