[Matthews, Elizabeth (illus). Engraved by William Hooker.]
London. Agricultural Society of Herefordshire. 1811.
Stipple and aquatint engraving with added handcolor, plate mark 8 3/8 x 11 3/8 inches on sheet 11 x 15 inches. Light scattered foxing, a few light indentations to paper at upper right. This delicately engraved and colored botanical print is from the publication "Pomona Herefordiensis; containing coloured engravings of the old Cider and Perry fruits of Herefordshire" which was prepared by Thomas Andrew Knight, a wealthy landowner who was the most distinguished horticulturist of his time, and an excellent fruit breeder. Of particular historical interest is the "warts and all" quality of the fruit. Item #43379
