Handcolored pictographic / pictorial map, 18 x 19 1/2 inches on sheet size 20 1/2 x 22 inches. Faint soiling to left margin (outside map area), very good clean condition. A most unusual and charming pictorial map by L.S.M. Prince of the medieval town of Lavenham in Suffolk, England. Signed in pencil by the artist at lower right, printed on thick paper. "A Concise Description of Bury St. Edmund's and its Environs" (Longman, 1827): "In the Hundred of Babergh, 10 miles S. by E. of Bury, 20 from Ipswich, and 62 from London, containing about 2400 acres of as fine land as any in the country." Boasting a profusion of medieval half-timbered buildings, Lavenham was once the a thriving centre of the wool trade. Item #43253
