Some 52 maps (tipped-in), handcolored, marbled endpapers, 19 1/2 x 14 1/2 inches, hardbound with FRONT COVER & SPINE LEATHER MISSING. MISSING 18 MAPS: plate 1 - North Polar Charts, 2 - Hemispheres, 4 - Europe, 7 - Ireland, 24 - Palestine, 27 - Africa, 28 - Southern Africa, 29 - Egypt, Arabia Petraea & Lower Nubia, 48 Minnesota, 50 - Kansas, 52 - Manitoba, 53 - Wyoming, 54 - Washington/Oregon, 55 - California, 57 - Arizona/New Mexico, 58 - Colorado, 59 - Missouri, & 68 - Texas. Overall the condition of the maps is very good with occasional light scattered foxing (mainly to first and last few pages), small blue pencil notation to plate 3 Chart of the World and plate 38 MA, CT; a few plates soiled (mainly in outer margins), plate of Massachusetts (not numbered) is soiled and with a split at lower centrefold. Nice double page maps of European countries, including one of Sweden and Norway with inset plan of Stockholm There are some 46 double page maps (all tipped in), and 6 double page maps with two separate maps with a decorative border division. On a double sheet with New Jersey (with shared central decorative border) is a most uncommon separate map of Long Island. Other interesting maps include a "United States Railroad Map, Showing Through Lines of Communication from the Atlantic to Pacific, Together with the Various Steamship Lines Along the Seaboard." The Massachusetts/Connecticut maps are the most used. Incomplete as an atlas, but a collection of attractive maps from the last years of handcolored atlas maps. Item #42720
