Petrie, J.L. (illus).
Chromolithograph, 10 x 15 inches. 1/2 inch edge tear at lower edge, soft crease at lower right edge, spots of adhesive remains on verso from where the plate was tipped onto display sheet. A chromolithograph of the highest quality, capturing the subtle coloration of the fish portrayed, produced for William Harris' publication "The Fishes Of North America" which was published in 1898 (Bennett, American Nineteenth Century Color Plate Books p.51). Harris had his artist, J.L. Petrie, paint from recently caught fish to provide the most realistic coloration. Unlike other images this did not have the particulars of where it was caught noted in the lower left margin. Item #42139
