Petrie, J.L. (illus).
Chromolithograph, 10 x 17 inches on sheet 12 x 19 inches. A few soft creases in lower right margin and a 1/4 inch archivally mended edge tear (outside image area), light soiling in margins and at right edge of image; diagonal line imperfection to printing only visible under raking light. A chromolithograph of the highest quality, capturing the subtle coloration of the fish portrayed, produced for William Harris' publication "The Fishes Of North America" which was published in 1898 (Bennett, American Nineteenth Century Color Plate Books p.51). Harris had his artist, J.L. Petrie, paint from recently caught fish, and the particulars are noted in the lower left margin: "Specimen (weight 3 lbs.) caught and painted at North Long Branch, N.J." with Harris' facsimile signature.
