Vol. XIX. BOUND VOLUME for January to June 1881, 26 chromolithographic plates, black and white in-text illustrations, xii + 668pp, index, 12 x 9 1/2 inches, three quarters leather cloth covered boards (hardbound). Leather spine missing, front board detached, lightly soiled and rubbed, rear joint split but still attached. Text block clean and tight with sparse light foxing, one plate has 5 1/2 tear in lower left image, otherwise color plates bright and in very good condition. A half year volume containing weekly issues of The Garden magazine from January 1 to June 25 at a moment in its publishing history when the chromolithographic prints were particularly attractive. Within this antique volume is a wealth of descriptive information to accompany gorgeous and vibrantly colored plates such as: Two Herbaceous Peonies, The Purple Milla, A Group of Single Dahlias, Lilium Polyphyllum, Eulphia Guineensis, etc. Suitable for rebinding.
