Paris. ( 1809).
Color stipple engraving, plate mark 8 3/4 inches by 6 inches on sheet 9 1/2 x 6 1/2 inches. Light foxing, otherwise very good. The engraving is in a conservation mat with marble paper band: the mat is lightly soiled. Beautiful stipple engraving of a rose, depicting flower and botanical details, from "Plantes de la France" by J.H. Jaume Saint-Hilaire. The French were the masters of the botanical stipple engraving, which Redoute used to great effect. Dunthorne ("Flower and Fruit Prints") describes these as "small but exquisitely delicate plates of pure colour printing" Item #39369
