Chromolithograph, image 8 1/2 x 13 on sheet 12 1/2 x 17 3/4 inches. Occasional light soiling and foxing, overall a clean bright image. This stunning image is from the third part of Cesar Daly's "L'Architecture privee", entitled "Decorations interieures peintes," published in 1877. The publication had considerable influence not only in Europe but also in the United States; the third part celebrates the talent of the French decorative painter depicting the elegant painted interiors of private houses of the day. The chromolithographs are particularly rich in coloring, adding to the highly decorative quality of the print. This image depicts the vestibule ceiling, with a detail of the central panel.
