Beautifully detailed and subtly handcolored image of two birds on a branch , one extracting nectar from the flowering vine. Drawn and lithographed by W. Hart, printed by Mintern Brothers. From "The Birds of New Guinea," the last of John Gould's famous series of ornithological works; this work was reviewed in the Auk magazine as a "magnificent contribution to ornithology." R. Bowdler Sharpe took over as editor of this work after Gould's death in 1881. Item #37908
