Berne. The Swiss Federal Railroads. 1933.
Color pictographic / pictorial map, 17 x 18.5 inches (43.5 x 47 cm) folding to pamphlet 9 x 4 inches; 3 column color illustration, color cover illustration and text on verso. Very light toning to top and bottom edges of front cover; map in excellent clean condition. This is the 1933 edition of a pamphlet originally published in 1931. In this edition two columns of text "The Land of Contrasts" and a column giving information on Railway Tickets have replaced the color illustration which visually portrayed (with people swimming, skiing, rockclimbing, golfing...) 'the land of contrasts' in the earlier edition. A more sober 3 column illustration of Swiss scenery by P. Gauchat remains from the earlier edition. The attractive pictorial map shows Switzerland at the centre of a network of railways from southern England at the upper left to Venice and Florence at the lower right. Sailing ships, a blimp and humorous characters (for example, the Englishman, skis over his shoulder, crossing the Channel on a sea creature) enliven the map. Item #37713
