Cheiranthus Cheiri. Common Wall-Flower.

London. William Curtis. 1817-1828.
Engraving, handcolored, image 12 x 8 on sheet 18 1/2 x 11 inches. Wove paper. One small piece of tape and slight indentations from old clips at upper border well outside plate mark, very good condition. With accompanying text sheet. A plate from the second edition of William Curtis's magnum opus "Flora Londinensis" (de Belder #87, Dunthorne #87), enlarged by George Graves and William Jackson Hooker. The wove paper in this edition is whiter than the laid paper in the 18th century edition. The plants are depicted life size, and include most of the British flora. This is a particularly attractive image with attractive details of the flowers. Item #36116
