Engraving on laid paper, handcolored, image 7 x 4 1/2 inches (plus text area) on sheet 12 x 9 inches. Pencilled (plate?) number at upper right of sheet outside plate mark, slight spotting in margins, 2 short tears to right edge, well outside of image, otherwise bright and in fine condition. An exquisite botanical image by Pancrace Bessa, one of France's foremost botanical artists of the 19th century, engraved by Barrois for "Flore des Jardiniers, Amateurs, et Manufacturiers . . . d'apres les Dessins de Bessa". At lower left in tiny italics is noted the place of origin of the plant (the Cape) and the date of flowering (April - May). Item #36019
