January - March 1939 issue of the magazine, profusely illustrated, original color lithographs, many color and black and white full page illustrations, double page illustrations, 140 pages, 14 x 10 1/2 inches, color pictorial wrappers. Magazine is partially disbound, back cover and last 4 sheets detached with most of spine gone, chips/paper loss to extremities of cover, top fore edge corner moderately bumped throughout, otherwise contents in good clean condition. Original color lithographs including double page lithograph "The Dance" by Matisse: "Henri Matisse has painted for Verve a replica of his large painting, La Danse, now in the Moscow Museum. This is reproduced lithographically on the following pages. Two Figures of Skaters in motion have been composed on linoleum by Matisse to precede and follow La Dance." Four color lithographs by Andre Derain illustrating "In the Garden of Allah" by Dr. J.C. Mardrus. Also color lithographs of the 14th century Book of Health "Tacuinum Sanitatis."
