Engraving with mezzotint, printed in color with additional handcolor, image size 12 1/2 x 8 inches on sheet 16 1/2 x 10 inches. Binding holes and little paper loss in binding area at left of sheet, ample margins, very good condition. Four flowers of the genus Gracca depicted, most in shades of pink and white. Plate No. 436 from Johann Wilhelm Weinmann " Phytanthoza Iconographia", printed on thick laid paper. Dunthorne (#327) notes that plates from this work represent "some of the earliest examples of color printing from a single plate", many of them printed by a combination of line engraving and mezzotint.
