Lithograph, hand colored, image area approximately 9 x 6 3/4 inches on sheet 11 x 8 1/2 inches. Very good condition. An exceptionally fine handcolored lithograph issued in the "Reports of Explorations and Surveys, To Ascertain the Most Practicable and Economical Route for a Railroad from the Mississippi River To The Pacific Ocean" published by the U.S. Government. This is marked plate VIII, depicting a black winged, white breasted bird in a grassy landscape with water foreground. The Latin name given is the contemporary name for this bird. The region noted at the top left of this plate is California and Oregon. Item #33315
