This series, published on an occasional basis, is packed with information about illustrators, both well known and obscure and profusely illustrated with color reproductions of their original illustration work (Chris Beetles Gallery specializes in original illustration). Gorgeous productions which are also fascinating to read.

Although touted on the dustjacket as the first biography of Edward Ardizzone, the authors introduction states this book aims to give a pictorial record of Edward Ardizzones work, both as an artist and an illustrator of books, from his earliest drawings in 1929 to the present day& the test is primarily a commentary on the illustrations, but there is as well an attempt to give a critical appraisal of Ardizzones style. It is in no way a life of the artist. He has himself covered his early years in his autobiographical sketch The Young Ardizzone (Studio Vista, 1970). Contains a useful bibliography.
