How To Search Our Galleries
We have five Galleries: antique maps, antique prints, collectible books, vintage magazines and ephemera; each gallery may be searched separately or you may choose to search in all the galleries at one time. If, for example, you are interested in books about China, but not in prints of China, then you will probably want to search in only the Old Book Gallery.
To search a
single gallery, click on the appropriate gallery image at the top of each page: this will take you to a search / browse page for that gallery.
To search
all galleries at once, click on the Search All Galleries tab at the top of each page (next to the Review Cart tab), or on the link in the Quick Search box at the top right of the home page.
On the search page you have two options:
The first bar SEARCH FOR, allows you to search our catalogue by
TITLE, AUTHOR, STOCK ID and
ISBN as well as for any word that appears in the description of an item (this is the
KEYWORDS option: this option makes it easy to search for books by content, or to find books on specialist topics). Type your search term(s) into the search field, choose the field you want to search in under the drop down menu beside the search field, and click
Find to generate a list of items.
The second bar:
Select a Gallery List to Browse allows you to browse through lists that we have put together by
TOPIC. Simply select a topic from the drop down list and then click on the
Find icon to generate that list.
If you are using the All Galleries search, the records in any list will be a combination of prints, maps, books, ephemera and magazines, allowing for a very broad search. If you are interested only in, for instance, books, you should use the Old Book Gallery search page (click on the Books icon at top right of the page).
Viewing A Stock Record
The list of items shows title, author and stock id number together with a thumbnail image if available; click on a title to show the single record page with our full description and large image if available. Beneath the item record is a list of Related Subject Areas. This powerful feature generates lists of items from all areas of our online stock with a similar theme - so "Oregon" would bring up items of our online stock with a connection to Oregon - whether it was a map, view or a botanical print. This really opens the window for temptation!
To purchase an item, simply click on the Add to Cart icon at top right of the record and it will be added to your shopping cart, ready for check out.
If you can't find the item you are looking for then please
contact us and we let you know if we are able to locate it.
Quick Search
This is a convenient, but more limited, method of searching our galleries, and can be found on the right side of this page and many other pages on our website. To do a Quick Search simply type
ALL or
PART of the
TITLE, AUTHOR, STOCK ID, or
ISBN into the Quick Search field and press enter or return on your keyboard. A list of full and partial matches will be displayed. This method of searching is best if you know exactly what you are looking for, and want to find it quickly.
