Professionally mounted on linen, minimising fold lines (as issued) and two tears in lower margin; short tear at centrefold now scarcely visible. Very clean and bright. A stunning image of two girls in pink dresses and hats petting a dog (Irish Wolfhound?), an exceptional Victorian image of children by P.R. Morris, an associate of the Royal Academy in London. |

See-Saw. Waltz, Composed by A.G. Crowe. Stock ID: 43321 No date. Ca. 1870. Color cover (two-color lithograph with additional handcolor) with one sheet of music. Binding holes at one edge as removed from a bound volume, music is apparently incomplete. 1 inch tear at right edge, 1/2 inch tear at left edge, neither entering image, bookseller's stamp at lower right corner, publisher's embossed stamp at upper left corner. Overall clean and bright. A charming image of children playing on a see-saw which has been improvised from a tree trunk and a plank; in the distance children run out of a school house to join the fun. The image was lithographed by Stannard & Son, whose work included panoramic bird's eye views. |

Linscott, Dorothy (illus). A Map of Mother Goose Land. / A Picture Map of Noah's Ark for Children. Stock ID: 44667 Woburn, MA. 1933 PAIR OF FRAMED MAPS. Color pictorial maps, each approximately 16 x 20 inches, in wooden frames. Maps were trimmed to fit into frames: the upper and lower red border lines are visible, but the left and right edges have been trimmed to just within the decorative border. The maps are not glued down, but there is a tear at the lower left corner of the Mother Goose map where a small section of the map has adhered to the glass. Two charming pictorial maps for children by Dorothy Linscott. The Map of Mother Goose Land depicts characters from well known rhymes such as Three Little Kittens, Mary Had a Little Lamb, Jack and Jill. The Noah's Ark map depicts pairs of animals with a humorous rhyme for each. |

A charming image of a little boy playing cricket, with bat at the wicket, "from the original painting by Philip H. Calderon R.A. in the Possession of the Proprietors of Pears' Soap." Text in upper margin reads: "This is one of three coloured plates presented with Pears' Christmas Annual 1898. The Annual (with three plates) one shilling complete." |

Chromolithograph, image 19 1/2 x 28 on sheet 21 1/4 x 29 1/4 inches. Small stain in lower right margin (not affecting image), several edge tears with one just entering image area, light toning to 1 1/2 inch panel at right side. Otherwise a clean, bright image. A gorgeous image of a young boy sailing his boats under the approving eye of his mother and sister, by the prolific and very popular Victorian painter Fred Morgan, whose paintings of children and animals are particularly charming. A. & F. Pears soap company pioneered the use of "fine art" reproductions in advertising their product, thus equating it in the public mind with the finer things of life. The most famous example of this is their chromolithographic reproduction of Sir John Everett Millais' "Bubbles." The Pears Annual was published from 1891 to the 1920s accompanied by 2 or more of these beautifully printed chromolithographic reproductions of popular paintings of the day. |

First Prize. Stock ID: 41864 Illustrated London News. 02-06- 1886. Chromoxylograph (color wood engraving), image size 11 5/8 x 9 inches on sheet 16 x 11 1/2 inches. Very good condition. This genuine antique print was published as the Supplement to the Illustrated London News of February 6, 1886. It is a charming Victorian image of a St. Bernard dog with its proud owner, a little girl with long red hair dressed up in a stylish costume. The printing firm of Leighton, Bros. first printed a color wood engraving for The Illustrated London News in 1855, using a technique similar to the Baxter process, which gives a wonderful rich coloring. |
